CHOOSING THE RIGHT TATTOO SHOP

As you consider which Calgary tattoo shop to go to, don’t settle and do a bit of homework. Here’s a quick list of thing you should check:

  • Sanitation: Is it sterile? Are used ink cups lying around? A quick look around the shop should help you gauge whether or not the place is clean. Observe if the artists in the studio use gloves and whether or not the place is well-lit. You don’t want to risk getting infection.
  • Credibility: Is the shop licensed to operate? Be wary of home-operated tattoo parlops! Also, don’t be afraid to ask what kind of experience and training the artists have.
  • Price: The most expensive ones are not necessarily the best but the cheaper ones should also make you think. Talk to the artists to get a quote. Generally you get what you pay for when it comes to tattooing.
  • Artists: Do they provide samples of their work? Do they suit your taste? A good shop should have tattooists who truly love the art, are constantly growing in their craft, and are willing to communicate and collaborate with you. You’d want to go to an artist who has experience, originality, and considers your input. It would be great if you could choose from a pool of artists instead of just choosing between one or two guys who try to do it all but don’t execute the different styles well. It’s true: If you go for an artist that’s out if his element, you won’t be happy once you sit down on the chair. Every artist has an expertise so try and discover that.

The Creative process isn’t something you want to rush or cut corners in – from starts to finish, your tattoo experience should be a win-win for both you and your artist. You want a piece that the both you could be proud of.

WHAT TO EXPECT

When you come in for your appointment, make sure that you know and like your artist’s style. Next, ensure you’ve communicated with him regarding your tattoo’s intricacy and difficulty, price, and other factors you may want to bring up. If you’re at a loss for designs but you have ideas, we can work with that. Expect professionalism and creativity.
